Meri Englund | Helsinki Espoo | Principle Concertmaster

Concertmaster

“When 40 plus musicians are enjoying being on stage together, supporting each other in performance and having fun, magic happens.”

The Principal Concertmaster of Tapiola Sinfonietta

Meri Englund has been the 1st concertmaster of Tapiola Sinfonietta since 2002. The artistically acclaimed chamber orchestra based in Espoo, Finland, is particularly renowned for its authentic interpretations of Viennese Classical works, performances without a conductor, and its bold, cross-genre repertoire.

Over the last two decades, Meri has collaborated closely with several well known conductors and soloists. Recent highlights include performing all Schumann’s symphonies with Sir Roger Norrington and those of Beethoven with Klaus Mäkelä, as well as the numerous concerts with the orchestra’s long-term Artists in Association, including Alexander Melnikov, Pekka Kuusisto, Mario Venzago, Olli Mustonen, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow.

A varied role as a leader

When Tapiola Sinfonietta performs without a conductor, also Meri, as the 1st concertmaster, has had the chance to lead the orchestra. In addition to this, she enjoys working together with Tapiola-Sinfonietta’s many guest soloist-conductors.

Playing in different chamber music ensembles is very close to Meri’s heart. This is reflected in the abundance of chamber music in the orchestra’s repertoire.
